Mikumi National Park sits beside the main road between Dar es Salaam and the south, so it is one of the easiest parks to reach. The Mkata floodplain is open, which makes wildlife easy to spot.

Wildlife & Animals
The floodplain supports elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and hippos. Lions are regularly seen, often resting on the open ground or in the trees.
Best Time To Visit
Mikumi can be visited all year, but the dry season from June to October gives the best viewing. It is a good option for a short safari or as a first stop on a southern route.
Getting There
Mikumi is about four to five hours by road from Dar es Salaam, or a short flight to the park airstrip.
