Fly-in Safari Tanzania

Fly-in Safari Tanzania

Fly-in Safari Tanzania

A fly-in safari replaces long road transfers with short scheduled or charter flights between parks. You spend more time watching wildlife and less time in a vehicle, which suits short trips and remote parks.

Why choose a fly-in safari?

Flying saves hours on the road. A transfer that takes most of a day by car can take about an hour by air, so you reach the park in time for an afternoon game drive.

You also see the landscape from above, and you can reach remote parks that are hard to drive to.

  • Less time in the vehicle and more time with wildlife
  • Aerial views of the plains, rivers and lakes
  • Easy access to remote parks in the south and west
  • A comfortable option for families and older travellers

The best fly-in safari destinations

The Serengeti is the most popular fly-in destination, with airstrips close to the main wildlife areas. Southern parks such as Ruaha and Nyerere are usually reached by air, and so are Katavi and Mahale in the west.

We can also combine a fly-in safari with a beach stay, with a flight from the park to Zanzibar.

Costs of charter flights

Flights add to the cost of a trip compared with driving. The price depends on the route, the season and whether you use a scheduled flight or a private charter, so we quote each trip individually.

What to know before booking

Small aircraft have baggage limits and require soft bags. Flights can change with weather and airstrip conditions, and flight times are set by the operator. Tell us your group size and luggage and we will plan around the limits.

Pack in a soft bag and keep heavy items such as camera gear in your hand luggage, as the weight limit applies to checked bags.
